First Day

Well, here goes.

I’ve thought about it from the day my friend suggested I start a blog.  At the time, it felt like a chore.  Much easier to religiously email pictures of my child to a small group of people in my life.  Everyday from the time my daughter was born, I sent a select picture titled, Alice in the Morning, to a small group of people in my life.  Overcome with love, I wanted to share with those who I feel enjoy her as much as I do.  It was impossible for me to not take multiple pictures of Alice throughout the day.  She is my favorite subject.

Once I started the daily email pictures, I felt obligated to continue.  I had a full-time job and from the time Alice was three months old, she was in daycare full-time, often the first baby to arrive in the morning.  Since I titled the emails, Alice in the Morning, I somehow felt the pictures should take place in the morning hours.  It didn’t always work out that way but more often than not my email group would receive their fresh baby Alice picture before eight AM.  Over the course of Alice’s first year, the recipient list grew and I often wondered how long I could keep this up.  I struggled with it and sometimes regretted ever starting something I can’t even really categorize.  I’m not even sure if this is a project, a hobby, or an obession.

After a year’s worth of daily Alice pictures, I started sending Alice in the Morning pictures on a weekly basis.  Every Sunday, I look through the pictures I take over the course of the week, and decide which one to email.  My husband would surely tell you that it’s not an individual effort.  He regularly helps me choose because I have such a hard time picking just one!  Alice is 3 1/2 now and I still wonder how long I can do this.  I don’t know that anyone is counting on their Alice in the Morning shot every week, or that when they check their email they are expecting to see an email from me.  I do know that this is a way for me to maintain a connection with people I care about.  There’s no doubt that I continue to do it because of the responses I receive.  The comments to the pictures I so proudly share fill my heart.  This little girl fills my heart.
